Client work: permanent exhibit at the Alamo, historically accurate adobe & limestone wall systems
See our restoration workAbout
Based in Kingsbury, Texas, one hour east of Austin and San Antonio.
Founded in 2021 by native Texans, husband and wife duo Arielle Crawford and Simon Gonzalez, we combine Simon's third-generation natural building skills with Arielle's MBA in sustainable design and manufacturing to deliver the cutting edge of natural building.
We started as a full service construction company, offering both 100% earthen modern homes and commercial spaces from scratch, as well as lime plaster services over conventional and earthen substrates. We now focus primarily on lime plaster, offering a healthy, natural and beautiful solution tailored to any new or existing construction modality. Unlike our competitors, all of our plasters are customized for each project, developed and batched in-house using heritage formulas and local materials.
No one understands lime plaster better than Simon. His work is world-renowned, not only for quality and durability, but for artisan craftsmanship. His work on the wall is an art in itself, a signature style that's both recognizable and timeless, reducing health risks like mold while raising property value.
Lead Builder & Plasterer
A third-generation plasterer, Simon leads every installation, teaches our courses and workshops, and develops our products from local slaked limestone, aggregate and biopolymers. His most recent client work includes a permanent exhibit at the Alamo and a home spa in the Hamptons.
Owner & Operator
Arielle manages everything but the building itself, including design, purchasing, contracting and client relations. Her background includes founding a well-known sustainable fashion brand in New York, teaching sustainable manufacturing at FIT, and running The Realness Preserve, the family compound and nonprofit showcase for natural building.

Our Work

Plastering
We source, process and mix our own materials from local slaked limestone, aggregate and biopolymers.
Lime plaster pre-dates any other wall treatment by thousands of years. It's renowned for its breathability, creating an air filter out of your walls. It's antifungal, antibacterial, autogenous (self-healing) and carbon sequestering, meaning when applied correctly, it will never mold and will continue to cure over time.
Lime plaster can be applied over any substrate with proper preparation, including cob, adobe, strawbale, hempcrete, brick, cinderblock, concrete, drywall, wood, hardy backer board and lath. Lime plaster is not just a finish, when paired with lath, it can be installed as a substrate in itself, replacing drywall altogether. We are partnered with Havelock Wool insulation with preferential pricing.

Our Work

Tadelakt is an ancient method of waterproofing lime plaster achieved through polishing and olive oil soap. It's the highest end finish available, popular in showers & baths.

Clay plasters can often be derived from site soil and rely on the naturally occurring pigment. Suitable for low-traffic, indoor areas like bedrooms and living rooms.

Common questions
Lime plaster starts at $15/sq ft/wall surface area and varies by substrate, site specifics and desired finishes.
Lime plaster is suitable for any and all climates and is applicable to most substrates, both natural and conventional. Lime plaster is antifungal, absorbs humidity, infinitely repairable, nontoxic & VOC free, breathable, air filtering, hypoallergenic, as well as "autogenous" or self healing - because of its chemical composition, minor hairline cracks can actually fill and heal themselves over time as the lime cures. When applied correctly, lime plaster has outstanding durability and longevity, acquiring desirable patina over time rather than degradation. Compatible with mineral pigments for coloring.
Not necessarily. In some states, stucco applicators are required to be licensed. No permits are required for plastering in Texas.

Custom build
Custom builds run cost plus, with a 10% retainer. A finished home starts at $400/sq ft. Central Texas only.
Starting estimate for a fully finished custom cob, adobe, or hempcrete home, including interior & exterior three-coat lime plaster. Design starts at $2,500, design-based estimates start at $1,000.
Average completion time for a custom build under 2,000 sq ft, depending on actual size and design.
We do not recommend building larger than this, or above a single story in cob or adobe, as cost increases roughly 20% for every 2 feet above 8 feet due to exponential increase in manual labor.
Renovation, restoration & remediation
This work varies too much to estimate from square footage alone. Existing conditions, substrate, and previous coatings all change the scope, and remediation projects depend on what is coming out of the wall as much as what is going back on. We start with a conversation.
Design
We design to the material, so your plans account for how cob, adobe, hempcrete and lime plaster actually behave before anyone breaks ground.
Starting price for collaborative CAD design and build plans with us. Not architect or engineer certified.
Starting price for a design-based estimate, so you can price the project before committing to a full build.
For plans that need to clear permitting, we design with our in-network architects and engineer.

Design begins with a consultation call with Simon. From there we develop plans collaboratively, then move to a bid and estimate. You are welcome to take finished plans to another builder, though we recommend designing with the crew who will build it.

How pricing works
Custom builds run cost plus, with a 10% retainer. You pay the true cost of materials and labor as the work happens, so nothing is padded into a fixed bid and any savings on the build stay with you. We draw 10% of the project estimate up front, hold it as a retainer, and bill every two weeks against real invoices.
Our Work
Adobe + lime plaster

Common questions
A fully finished custom cob, adobe or hempcrete home in our service region (Central Texas) starts at $400/square foot. Includes interior & exterior three coat lime plaster. Cost varies greatly based on design choices, location, product choices like roof, floor, doors, windows, built ins, finishes, fixtures, etc. We typically run custom builds at cost plus, with a design-based estimate provided starting at $1,000.
Permitting is county specific. Check with your local building code office. "Adobe" is in the code book in most locations, and cob can be considered monolithic adobe. In some cases like rural Texas, permits are not required for anything but septic. Additional costs will be incurred if engineer or architect certified plans are required.
Some modality of natural building is suitable to every location - look to the natural resources and vernacular architecture of your region for hints. In cold climates, modalities with high R-value, like strawbale, is recommended. In hot climates, modalities with high U-value like cob and adobe are recommended. In both cases, thermal mass is beneficial. In wet and snowy areas, foundations and roof overhangs must be substantial to protect walls.
We do not recommend building over 2,500 sq ft, as earthen building is laborious and time consuming, or above single stories in cob or adobe, as cost increases by 20% every 2 feet above 8 feet.
Functionally, like any other construction method. Electrical routes are carved into the wall and plumbing is installed in the foundation.
We do not relocate for custom builds, but we do offer both on-site and remote consultation and training throughout the build process for owner-builders and labor forces. We recommend attending our workshops in congruence with this approach.
Custom builds start with a consultation call with Simon, then collaborative design. Central Texas only.
